Spanish property remains popular with Brits
21.08.2007
British overseas property investors continue to favour the Spanish market above all others, according to a new report.
Statistics published by Propertyline revealed that 43 per cent of all property enquiries it received were for Spain, followed by 13 per cent for France and 11 per cent for Italy.
According to the firm, television programmes have helped to promote Spain as a strong investment choice, although there has been negative press about the long-term outlook for the market.
Rob Haynes of Propertylink said: "The newspapers all like to hype up bad news, but it seems we are not being put off owning a dream home in the sun."
Although activity in August is usually quieter, the firm has seen a "healthy" number of overseas property enquiries, particularly for southern Europe, he added.
A similar survey by HiFX recently found that despite recent fears that the market may be in decline, the majority of people enquiring about purchasing property overseas were considering Spain.
