Retirees emigrating to Spain

25.09.2007

Many older people are choosing Spain as their ideal retirement destination, an expert has said.

According to travel writer Stephen Morgan, foreigners have been tempted to relocate to the country by factors such as the good climate and attractive scenery.

He said that Spain also offered a wide variety of properties that were available for an affordable price, making relocation a financially viable option for many people.

Mr Morgan commented: "The south-eastern Mediterranean coast of Spain has the highest percentage of retired persons in the world."

He added that the country was "unrivalled" as a retirement destination because of the lifestyle it offered, as well as its broad appeal to a wide group of people.

Spain was recently described as a "lifestyle destination" by British newspaper the Telegraph, as people were said to buy properties there in order to enjoy the country itself rather than to earn money from an investment.
