Spanish destinations will become popular again in the long-term, AITO says
08.04.2009
Spain will only be viewed as an expensive holiday destination in the short-term, the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) has said.
AITO chairman Derek Moore said that the reason why Spanish tourism is currently suffering is down to the poor exchange rate, with a meal in Europe that would have cost £20 last year now costing £30.
"I think that will change because people will get used to the high prices and tour operators are starting to put out a lot of special offers so that will tempt people back," he said.
Mr Moore added that Spain will be perceived as too expensive "for a little while", although this is a problem that is only temporary.
