Bmibaby recommends flights to Malaga and Alicante in May
17.04.2009
Cheap flights carrier bmibaby has said that the May bank holiday weekend is a good time fly to Malaga and Alicante because of Cruces de Mayo Fiesta, or the Festival of May Crosses.
The event, which has become an integral part of Spanish culture, takes place between May 1st and 3rd and sees the town's cobbled streets, balconies and town squares become decorated with floral ornaments in the shape of crosses.
Commenting on the festival's appeal, a bmibaby statement said: "Many of the local town councils run competitions, so the flower crosses range from the weird to the wonderful.
"Temporary bars are erected along the streets and both locals and tourists congregate around these for drinks, tapas and traditional Spanish dancing."
The airline operates flights to Malaga and Alicante from Manchester, East Midlands, Birmingham International and Cardiff airports.
The cheap flights carrier was launched in 2002 with one route to Malaga from East Midlands Airport.
