Brits choose Turkey, Spain and Cyprus for summer holidays
06.01.2009
The top holiday destinations for Britons in 2009 include Majorca, Turkey's Lycian Coast and the Cypriot resort of Larnaca, a survey has revealed.
According to the research from the Co-Operative Travel, the gap is closing on Spain's lead in the holiday stakes, with its Mediterranean neighbours not far behind.
Turkey, which is not in the eurozone, has seen bookings rise by eight per cent in the last 12 months.
Head of retail at Co-operative Travel, Trevor Davies, said: "Spain is one destination where prices have held steady since last year and it may be that this traditional favourite will offer holidaymakers the best value if they book early enough."
Mr Davies added that Turkey has been popular in recent years as holidaymakers believe it offers better value for money.
However, he warned that people must look closely at deals to ensure they get a genuine bargain.
