Lanzarote ‘faring better for property overseas than Spanish mainland’

26.10.2009

Those looking for overseas property and considering Spain will find that Lanzarote has fared better than the mainland since the economic downturn began.

In a feature on the island as a place to live, the Times noted that official statistics record a drop of only four per cent in values, a third of the overall national figure.

The paper also noted that the island has avoided some of the perceived development problems seen in parts of the mainland, with a policy being instigated from the 1960s of painting new buildings white and avoiding high-rises.

Such features and the strength of prices on the island may appeal to those keen on moving abroad, as may the year-round warmth of the climate.

Writing his column for Spanish property portal Kyero.com last week, Martin Dell said that for sensible investors it is "safe" to buy in Spain, with it being likely that the property market will start to improve soon.
