North-west Spain 'a well-guarded secret'

08.01.2010

Travellers can experience a lesser-known part of a familiar holiday country by heading to north-west Spain, according to a tourism industry spokesman.

Despite the fact that Spain has long been the top choice for British holidaymakers, there are still parts of it that have not been explored, according to Ignacio Vasallo, UK and Europe director of the Spanish Tourism Office.

'The north-west region still seems to be a well-guarded secret amongst those in the know: Galicia, Asturias, and Castille in particular,' he said.

'Galicia's fjords and rugged landscape is a huge attraction for visitors and the local fish is phenomenal.'

There are various experiences and activities on offer to travellers throughout the region, Mr Vasallo revealed, from hiking and caving in the Cantabrian mountains to discovering the history of medieval Castile.

North-west Spain is also home to countless beaches that will interest people planning a relaxing break.

Travellers interested in visiting the area can catch flights to Santander, Vigo, Bilbao and other destinations with carriers such as easyJet, Iberia and British Airways.
